Now that November has arrived, I can hardly contain my excitement. Our sweet family tradition of reading the Jotham’s Journey series is about to begin. We started this read-aloud trilogy when our youngest was 5 and since the time we opened the first page of Jotham’s Journey (the first of this trilogy), we were all hooked. It is a beautiful living adventure story series that invites those reading along to let their imaginations run wild. The adventure of each book ends in Bethlehem, at the scene of Christ’s arrival, with the journey along the way so intense you have to discipline yourself to stay on track with the suggested reading schedule included so that you complete to book on Christmas Morning. Last year, we read Bartholomew’s Passage (book 2) and were delighted to see how the author, Arnold Ytreeide, brought Jotham (the character we grew to love the year before) back into the story. This year, we will be embarking on the third adventure, Tabitha’s Travels, and can only imagine where the adventure will take us.
Coming together after dinner to quietly sit and imagine together as the story is being read aloud creates such a sweet memory and tradition. I highly recommend investing in an advent candle holder and candles to use along side of this. It creates an ambiance that beckons everyone to snuggle up and listen together and a great way for children to count down to Christmas. If you haven’t read these, make it a point this year to start! The suggested reading schedule has the reader begin the adventure in November, reading a section each night until Christmas morning. Don’t miss these. Even if you don’t have children or are Empty Nesters, take the plunge and read the first one: Jotham’s Journey. You will be hooked!
Also, this would be a great Christmas gift idea. It is a beautiful way to share the Christmas message, with great thoughts to ponder along the way. The truth about salvation rings clear with these!
