Are you celebrating today? Did you hear? He’s Alive! Our God, Our Jesus, Our Savior lives! His resurrection is what our entire faith rests on. Every single prophesy that was written regarding our Savior, King Jesus, was fulfilled. He did everything He came to do, including to defeat death once and for all.
Let me pick up where I left off yesterday, listing those who had a “He’s Alive” moment:
Jesus- Luke 24:1-7
“But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they [Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Jesus’ mother, Mary along with some other women] went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is no here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”
Long story short: Jesus made a way for us. He defeated death. He died so that we could live. He made us new. Through Him, we are seen as holy and blameless to our Father in heaven who is so holy, so perfect, He could not look at us because we had fallen short, so short. So He sent His Son, His Perfect, Holy, Righteous, Blameless Son to be the sacrifice for all humankind. Because Jesus took it all on himself, He is able to present us as holy and righteous to His Father in heaven, not because we are so awesome ~ far from it. He presents us as holy and blameless and righteous because He paid for each and every one of us, through His blood on the cross. The “ticket” with my name on it; the ticket with your name on it that showed our debt, was stamped “PAID” with red ink in the form of Christ’s blood. For those who get that, accept His offering and say Yes to Him, we are off the hook. Out of jail. Seen as righteous, holy, blameless, and perfect.
“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demand. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross,” (Col. 2:13-14, ESV).
Because of this, you get to shout, “I’m Alive!”
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come,” (2 Cor. 5:17, ESV).
We are alive not because of anything we did or do, rather, because Jesus did what we could never have done for ourselves: He called us into life. Like He did for the boy mentioned in Post 1 of this series. Like he did for the girl mentioned in yesterday’s post. Like he did for the young man mentioned in yesterday’s post. Like he did for Lazarus. God calls us into life. Jesus (God in the flesh) has called us into life everlasting; we simply need to hear the call, rise up, and believe in the One who brings life.
Let’s wake up! Let’s come out. Let’s be alive!
These past three days, the posts I’ve written have talked about others who have been either called back to life or spared from death which should have ended them. Are you kidding me: Surviving roaring flames in a furnace and walking out unscathed? Hanging out in a den filled with hungry lions and being pulled out untouched? Being cast overboard into the stormy sea, then swallowed by a large fish, and spewed out onto dry land? Being called out of a tomb after having no heart beat for four days? What! Because of our God and his mighty power, every last one of the people I mentioned experienced life beyond themselves. That is what God does. That is what Jesus came to do. That is the life we get to live because of the One who saved us.
Scripture gives us another account of the dead being raised. It wouldn’t be right to end this series without mentioning it here:
Many Saints- Matthew 27:51
Long story short: After Jesus was crucified, “the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs were also opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.”
Can you imagine?
The truth is: Jesus brings the dead back to life.
He is mighty. He is powerful. The earth shakes because of Him. We come alive because of Him.
It is time to come out of our tombs. It is time to claim life everlasting. Death has no power over those of us who have been paid for.
He’s Alive! and because He Is, so we can be too!
Thank you, Jesus, for your life, your death, and your resurrection!
